Subsequent Antenatal Blood Tests

These are offered at 28 and 36 weeks of pregnancy. It covers:

  • A screening for any antibodies that may have developed during pregnancy. If any are detected, I will consult the blood bank for advice
  • A full blood count, to check your haemoglobin and platelet levels
  • A ferritin level, to check your iron stores. If they are low, then I will offer a prescription for iron tablets, or an iron infusion if they are very low
  • Screening for syphilis and HIV again is also recommended with these blood tests
